Kikoi sisal products are handmade by 2 groups of women in Kenya. Kamba-tribe's women in Ukambani village in Kenya make different sisal baskets by hand. They call themselves Sisal Sisters and they support their own families and many orphans and poor children as well in their village. By buying this item you make it possible for these women to preserve their traditional handicraft skills and you also support female entrepreneurship.
The long sisal fiber is extracted from the outer leaves of the sisal plant (species of Agave) by hand. This is done by crushing and beating the leaves with blunt knives so that only fibres remain. No chemical fertilizers are used in the sisal farms. No hard-metals are used in the dyeing process of Kikoi sisal baskets to ensure that the production of our colorful baskets doesn’t harm the Kenyan nature.
